Building owners that are in the market for a flat roof system have a few systems to select from. Walker Roofing is an expert flat roofing contractor, and can install these systems for your next project. The 3 primary styles of flat roof systems in the Twin City roofing market are the Built-Up Roofing (BUR) system, the Co-Polymer Alloy (CPA) roofs, and the Ethyleen Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) roofs.
The BUR system has been around for almost 200 years and has a typical life expectancy of 20-40 years. It consists of multiple layers of hot asphalt sandwiched between layers of reinforcing glass roof felts, covered with a final finish layer of asphalt and gravel. This system is known as the best flat roof system. It costs a little more to install, but lasts the longest and requires little maintenance.
The CPA roof consists of a single layer of white, reinforced membrane that attaches to the building with plates and screws. This system is lightweight, features welded seams and is Energy Star rated with 86% reflectivity. The CPA roof is also popular with many builders because it can be constructed over the existing roof, saving the cost of old roof removal.
The EPDM roof, also known as the rubber roofing system, can be installed 3 different ways, making it extremely flexible for installation. However, the EPDM has low puncture resistance and is not recommended for some situations.
